Chairman of VietinBank welcomed BTMU’s senior managers

Ho Chi Minh City, on 27th February 2018, the Chairman of the Board of Director of VietinBank – Mr. Nguyen Van Thang had a working session with Mr. Yasushi Itagaki – Managing Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive of Global Business Unit in charge of Global Planning Division in the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU).

Mr. Itagaki is one among the very first members representing BTMU to join the negotiation for the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement and the Technical Support Agreement between VietinBank and BTMU. As to now, Mr. Itagaki has had six years accompanying and supporting the strategic relationship between the two banks. At the meeting, Mr. Itagaki had shared BTMU’s medium-term business plan (MTBP) for the coming time, in which changes in organizational structures would be made to promote and further the fruitful relationships with BTMU’s global partner banks in Asia, including VietinBank.

Here, the Chairman of VietinBank also had given Mr. Itagaki updates on the bank’s very positive business performance in 2017: All business targets were met and exceeded; VietinBank had fundamentally recovered all bad debts incurred at the time of economic stagnation. Especially in 2017, VietinBank had successfully implemented the New CoreBanking Replacement Project, creating a state-of-the-art and steady technology foundation for VietinBank to make a breakthrough in 2018. Chairman Thang also expressed his gratitude to BTMU’s senior managers, especially Mr. Itagaki, who has always kept an eye on the strategic partnership with VietinBank and assigned many credible and experienced secondees to VietinBank in the last 5 years. Mr. Itagaki was also deeply impressed by the stellar achievements of VietinBank in 2017, which have helped the bank fortify its role as the leading bank of Vietnam and create the momentum to propel itself to the position of a regional bank.

At the meeting, the Chairman of VietinBank and Mr. Itagaki reviewed the key results of the cooperation of two banks during 5 years together and exchanged on orientation for the new partnership term. According to Mr. Itagaki, the wonderful cooperation results with VietinBank were considered the model of cooperation by BTMU, which should be further promoted in South-East Asia.

Mr. Itagaki believes that the ongoing cooperation programs as well as new cooperation initiatives between the two banks in the new partnership stage shall be successful under the leadership of Chairman Nguyen Van Thang and the Management Team of VietinBank.

Chairman Nguyen Van Thang was very proud that VietinBank had chosen a reliable strategic partner, who had contributed positively to VietinBank's business performance as well as its management. He believed that the new phase of cooperation between the two banks would become tighter and more successful.
